Advancement Via Individual Determination

AVID is an acronym which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination.  It is a college-prep and support program that prepares students for college eligibility and success.

The AVID program was started in Robbinsdale Area Schools in 2006-07 and currently serves students in grades 7-12 at Robbinsdale Middle, Plymouth Middle, Robbinsdale Armstrong and Cooper High Schools.  AVID targets academically promising students (GPA of 2.0-3.5) and places them in advanced courses, while supporting them through the AVID elective.

AVID levels the playing field for students without a college-going tradition in their families and/or students who are underrepresented on four-year college campuses.

AVID is designed to increase school-side learning and performance and to ensure that all students succeed in rigorous curriculum, participate in activitites at school, increasing enrollment in four-year colleges and become better educated and responsible participants and leaders in society.
